Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Abdulkadir Uraloğlu announced that the Türksat Solar Power Plant has been completed and is now operational, generating electricity. Spanning 131 acres, the massive solar power plant is expected to produce 15 million kWh of energy annually.
Highlighting the significance of the project, Minister Uraloğlu stated that the solar power plant, construction of which began in April 2024, will fully meet the energy needs of all Türksat campuses in Ankara. "As part of our efforts to combat climate change, this project aims to increase the use of renewable energy sources and reduce carbon emissions. With the Türksat Solar Power Plant, established over a vast 131-acre area, we are contributing to Turkey’s digital transformation through solar energy. Türksat, which protects our rights in space, supports the public with its e-Government infrastructure, and provides data center and cybersecurity services, will now also derive its energy from the sun," he said.
“60 Million Lira in Annual Savings”
Minister Uraloğlu emphasized that the plant will produce 15 million kWh of energy annually, meeting the total energy requirements of Türksat's Ankara campuses. "This means Türksat will now supply its entire energy demand from solar power," he explained. He also noted that the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure will continue to advance its renewable energy capacities, saying, "This plant will provide energy for all facilities at Türksat and result in an annual savings of 60 million TL. The return on investment for the system, including operational, maintenance, and insurance costs, will take less than three years based on current electricity prices. Additionally, the establishment of this system will ensure Türksat’s energy independence and redundancy," Uraloğlu added.
