Turkey's new satellite Türksat 5B was successfully launched into space from Cape Canaveral Space Launch Complex in Florida, USA at 06:58 Turkish time with SpaceX’s Falcon 9 rocket.
Türksat 5B communication satellite will be the most capable satellite in the Türksat satellite fleet with its useful payload capacity and power values.
Turkey's highest payload capacity satellite
Türksat 5B is in the high-efficiency satellite category with a capacity efficiency of at least 20 times higher compared to satellites in the Fixed Satellite Service (FSS) class.
Türksat 5B, the country's highest payload capacity satellite, has a launch weight of 4.5 tons and a power capacity of 15 kilowatts. It will provide data transmission capacity of more than 55 Gbps in total.
Domestic production equipment was also used in Türksat 5B
Türksat 5B will increase Turkey's Ka-Band capacity by more than 15 times and will start serving commercial sectors such as maritime and aviation where satellite communication is needed.
As part of the Domestic Industry Contribution Program, 2 communication equipment manufactured in Turkey will also be used in Türksat 5B. It will be the first time that domestically designed and manufactured equipment will be sent into space on a commercial communication satellite.
With the high data capacity provided by Türksat 5B satellite, it will be possible to establish an internet infrastructure in places within Turkey that cannot be accessed by terrestrial infrastructure.
The number of active communication satellites in Turkey will increase to 5
With the launch of the satellite to its 42-degree east orbit, The Ku-Band and Ka-Band capacity will be increased, and redundancy will be provided to the Türksat 3A and Türksat 4A satellites operating in the same orbit. Türksat 5B will have a maneuver life of over 35 years.
The coverage and speed of Türksat's domestic and national satellite antenna family PeycON services will be strengthened with Türksat 5B taking its place in space.
With the development of the satellite coverage area, it will be possible to use the MicrON, AerON, HidrON and TerrON antennas for services such as internet, corporate network and IP backhauling in many countries around the world.
The number of active communication satellites in Turkey will increase to 5 and the total number of satellites to 8.
