International ITS Turkey Summit started under the auspices of Abdulkadir Uraloğlu, Minister of Transport and Infrastructure. Türksat General Manager Hasan Hüseyin Ertok attended the opening of the summit, which was marked by the K-AUS Test and Application Corridor and ITS Central Software IoT Platform developed by Türksat, as well as the Satellite Supported National Intelligent Transportation Systems Automation Project.

Summits 4th International Intelligent Transportation Systems Summit started at Hacettepe University Tunçalp Özgen Congress and Culture Centre. Speaking at the opening of the summit, Uraloğlu announced that they have prepared a "National Intelligent Transport Systems Strategy Document and Action Plan". Emphasising that their main responsibility in the field of ITS is to create an efficient, safe, effective and sustainable smart transport network that utilises domestic and national resources, Uraloğlu stated that ITS studies in Turkey started with electronic toll payment systems. Uraloğlu stated that they have implemented the free pass system in this field and that they will expand it throughout the country, and emphasised that the development of the national ITS architecture has been completed. Uraloğlu said, "In the process of creating the national ITS architecture of our country, we have taken into account the current needs and future perspective of our country by examining the world literature review and good practice examples. At the same time, we have determined the service packages related to the localisation and customisation of the ITS architecture. We will soon present the National ITS Platform, which includes the architectural layers, service packages and architectural software tool of the national ITS architecture, to the public service. The platform will also include projects, legislation, national and international studies and events in the ITS sector."

Intelligent Transport Systems Communicate with Each Other via Satellite

Underlining that they have also determined the standards and communication solutions to be used in the dissemination of ITS applications in the country, Uraloğlu pointed out that in cases where existing communication infrastructures are not suitable due to geographical conditions, they enable intelligent transport systems to communicate with each other via satellite.

Stating that they have started work on the establishment of the Cooperative Intelligent Transport Systems (C-ITS) Application Corridor with Türksat in order to monitor new generation technologies such as autonomous vehicles, vehicle-vehicle, vehicle-infrastructure communication technologies, Uraloğlu said that with the corridor to be established between Hasdal and Istanbul Airport in Istanbul, they aim to reduce accidents and traffic congestion, ensure traffic safety, reduce fuel consumption and reduce negative environmental impacts.

"We are carrying out electric charging network planning studies"

Pointing out that their activities regarding electric vehicles continue, Uraloğlu said that studies are being carried out for the technical and administrative infrastructure necessary for the widespread use of these vehicles in our country. Uraloğlu said, "We are working in coordination with our relevant ministries to popularise electric vehicle charging stations. We are also carrying out electric charging network planning studies in order to create charging infrastructure in appropriate locations and capacities in our country's road and railway network. We contribute to the reduction of traffic congestion with our actions to promote cycling and micro mobility in cities."

Following the opening speeches, Deputy Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Ömer Fatih Sayan and Gaziantep Metropolitan Mayor Fatma Şahin visited the Türksat stand.
