Satellite

Türksat satellites, which play a critical role in disasters and emergency situations, have ensured uninterrupted communication infrastructure for intervention teams. Key institutions such as the Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD), Turkish Red Crescent, Gendarmerie General Command, and General Directorate of Forestry have established direct connections with Türksat satellites to ensure secure communication in the event of disasters.

In emergencies like earthquakes, floods, landslides, wildfires, and avalanches—where conventional communication infrastructure may be damaged—communication systems have been integrated with Türksat satellites to maintain coordination for emergency response teams and search and rescue operations.

127 Satellite Terminals Installed on AFAD Vehicles

As part of an agreement with relevant institutions, small-scale satellite terminals (VSAT antennas) were installed on vehicles and facilities used by emergency response teams. By connecting to Türksat 5B and other Türksat satellites, these terminals have helped prevent communication breakdowns during disasters. In this context, internet service with speeds of up to 100 Mbps has been provided to ensure uninterrupted data flow and operational processes for response teams.

A total of 127 VSAT antennas were installed for AFAD vehicles and emergency coordination centers operating in the field. In support of humanitarian relief efforts, 87 satellite terminals were also installed on vehicles belonging to the Turkish Red Crescent. Furthermore, to ensure uninterrupted communication for security forces during emergencies, 233 satellite terminals were integrated into vehicles of the Gendarmerie General Command.

Satellite Support for Forest Fire Response

During summer months, when wildfires are more common, communication infrastructure for coordination among firefighting units has been directly linked to Türksat satellites. Twenty-one VSAT antennas were installed on vehicles and units affiliated with the Department of Forest Pests Control under the General Directorate of Forestry. With this system, helicopter teams and ground intervention units tasked with extinguishing fires can maintain real-time communication even in areas with no terrestrial communication infrastructure, ensuring coordinated response operations.
