Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Abdulkadir Uraloğlu announced that a massive data center would be built in Gölbaşı by Türksat, covering an area of 28,500 square meters. He stated, “With this investment, Türksat’s current data center capacity will increase threefold in the first phase and more than eightfold in the second phase.”
Minister Uraloğlu shared that Türksat, the institution that established Türkiye’s digital infrastructure—including the e-Government Gateway—is bringing a new project to life. With the Gölbaşı Data Center to be built in Ankara, all data and cloud services needed by institutions that hold critical information and want to ensure business continuity will be met through domestic software. Uraloğlu emphasized, “The Gölbaşı Data Center will be one of Türkiye’s largest data centers, with its 28,500 square meter area.”
He noted that the design and planning work for the data center to be built at Türksat’s Gölbaşı campus has been completed and said, “Construction will begin this year on the project’s infrastructure, including building, electrical, mechanical, and telecommunication systems. With this investment, Türksat’s existing data center capacity will increase threefold in the first phase and more than eightfold in the second.”
“Uninterrupted Service Even in Extraordinary Situations”
Minister Uraloğlu stated that the Türksat Gölbaşı Data Center will feature six system halls, two high-performance rooms with 20 cabinets each, and 6,000 square meters of white space. The facility will also include office space with a capacity for 200 people. He continued, “With an installed power capacity of 21 megavolt-amperes, the center will be built to LEED-Gold certification standards for energy efficiency and comply with Uptime Institute Tier-III and TSE 50600 standards in terms of data center criteria. The data center will possess the infrastructure necessary to offer services such as artificial intelligence applications, deep learning, data mining, machine learning, data analysis, dataset processing, algorithm training, modeling, prediction, classification, and high-speed mathematical computations.”
He emphasized that the center will ensure that Türkiye’s largest institutions and organizations receive secure and uninterrupted service even during extraordinary situations and that e-Government services will continue without disruption.
Planned to Be Commissioned in 2027
Uraloğlu emphasized that the data center, designed with low carbon emissions and high energy efficiency, will contribute to the nation as an environmentally friendly facility. He noted that Türksat, as a major player, will serve to ensure competition in the sector and promote efficient use of public resources. Uraloğlu concluded, “The groundbreaking ceremony for the Gölbaşı Data Center will be held this year, and it is planned to be commissioned in the first half of 2027.”
