Türksat signed important cooperation agreements with Chinasat and Spacesail, two leading satellite operators of the People’s Republic of China. With the agreements, it is aimed to develop new technologies in international in-flight connectivity (IFC), global maritime communications, mobility solutions, disaster and emergency communications, and multi-orbit (GEO + LEO) services, as well as to offer joint satellite services in world markets.
Türkiye’s satellite communication operator Türksat A.Ş., in order to strengthen its power in the global satellite market, signed two major agreements in China. With the collaborations established with Chinasat Communication Co. Ltd., one of China’s largest satellite operators, and Spacesail, a company working on multi-orbit solutions, Türksat will expand the coverage area of the satellite communication services it offers both in Türkiye and around the world.
– Global Mobility and Aviation Cooperation with Chinasat
The cooperation agreement between Türksat A.Ş. and Chinasat Communication Co. Ltd. was held at Chinasat’s premises in Beijing, the capital of China. Türksat was represented at the ceremony by General Manager Ahmet Hamdi Atalay and Deputy General Manager of Satellite Services Dr. Selman Demirel, while Chinasat was represented by CEO Ma Haiquan, Aero Link by CEO Xing Lihai, and Sinosat by CEO Zheng Tao. Within the scope of the agreement, high-capacity satellite services will be developed in critical areas such as in-flight internet service, global maritime communications, terrestrial mobility, and disaster communications. Thus, Türksat will be able to offer these solutions, which it successfully carries out in Türkiye, more strongly across the world.
– Global Competition in Aviation and Maritime
Commenting on the cooperation agreement, Türksat General Manager Ahmet Hamdi Atalay emphasized that the agreement has great strategic importance for Türksat, stating: “This cooperation agreement we signed with Chinasat will further expand Türksat’s sphere of influence in the global satellite communications market. We have the capacity to jointly develop solutions that will meet the need for fast, secure, and uninterrupted communication infrastructure in the aviation and maritime sectors, which compete worldwide.” Chinasat CEO Ma Haiquan noted that the technological capabilities of the two organizations will produce powerful results on a global scale, saying: “This partnership with Türksat will pave the way for next-generation services in in-flight internet solutions and maritime communications. The knowledge and experience of Türkiye and China in satellite technologies will bring innovative solutions to the world market.”
– Multi-Orbit Era with Spacesail
The Türksat delegation also signed a second cooperation agreement with the China-based space technologies company Spacesail, covering multi-orbit communication systems. The agreement was signed by General Manager Ahmet Hamdi Atalay on behalf of Türksat and Chairman Dr. Jason Jie Zheng on behalf of Spacesail. Within the scope of the cooperation, high-capacity and low-latency communication solutions will be developed using GEO and LEO satellite infrastructures together. With this agreement, the way will be paved for offering flexible and uninterrupted communication services to sectors such as energy, mining, maritime, corporate data networks, and aviation. Türksat General Manager Atalay emphasized that this cooperation is of great importance for Türksat to enter the multi-orbit era strongly, stating: “This cooperation is an important step in Türksat’s vision of offering innovative communication solutions in the region. With the integration of GEO and LEO systems, we will provide our customers with faster, more flexible, and comprehensive services.”
