Türksat CEO Ahmet Hamdi Atalay participated in the Crisis Communication Workshop organized by the Presidential Directorate of Communications.

During the panel titled "Artificial Intelligence in Crisis Communication: Risks, Opportunities, and Future Projections," moderated by Olga Şanlı Gerger, Head of the Translation Department of the Directorate of Communications, Türksat CEO Ahmet Hamdi Atalay, Chair of the Grand National Assembly of Türkiye’s Digital Platforms Commission Assoc. Prof. Dr. Hüseyin Yayman, and General Director of Earthquake and Risk Reduction at AFAD (Disaster and Emergency Management Authority), Prof. Dr. Orhan Tatar, each delivered speeches.

Atalay emphasized that we are now experiencing a period in which artificial intelligence is being implemented in its true sense and said:

“There are hundreds of billions of connected devices. Trillions of sensors exist. Communication technologies are developing to transmit data and enable communication between people. We are on the brink of 5G technology. Hopefully, we will begin using 5G by the end of next year.”

“COVID-19 Accelerated Digitalization”

Atalay pointed out that we have entered an era where software is no longer written by humans but by robots and added, “Artificial intelligence has advanced to such a degree that it can now write code. The COVID-19 pandemic accelerated the digitalization process by about ten years. The previously predicted date for direct communication between humans and computers was the 2045s. Now, by 2035, we will be able to connect with machines directly through our brains, without even touching a keyboard. This will be possible through artificial intelligence and similar technologies.” He continued, “In the future, during disasters, in the field, in floods, or earthquakes, we will perform many tasks using robots. There will be environments where robots can work independently, as well as many jobs where robots and humans will work together.”

Atalay also emphasized the growing importance of computers’ processing power, saying it has now surpassed economic, political, and even military power in significance, “Artificial intelligence is making its presence felt more and more. The volume of data to be processed is increasing so rapidly that storing, transmitting, and processing it each pose individual challenges.”
