The scope of broadband internet service provided via Türksat satellites to village schools that cannot use the internet due to the lack of terrestrial communication infrastructure is expanding. In this context, the number of schools providing internet service via satellite increased by 22.6 percent compared to last year, reaching 2 thousand 227 village schools.
The General Directorate of Innovation and Educational Technologies of the Ministry of National Education and Türksat A.Ş. regarding the provision of internet service to schools via the communication satellites of Türksat A.Ş. A cooperation protocol was signed between them in 2019. Thanks to this protocol, thousands of village schools have access to the internet.
Türksat installs Türksat VSAT (Small Diameter Satellite Station) antennas in village schools in order to provide internet access to village schools, especially those located on steep terrain and where there is no terrestrial connection.
In this context, active satellite internet was provided to 1,366 schools in 2021 and to 1,817 schools in 2022. The number of schools providing internet via satellite reached a total of 2,227 by the end of 2023, an increase of 22.6 percent compared to last year. With the launch of Türksat 5B, the satellite internet speed provided to these schools was increased to over 100 Mbps. It is planned to expand high-speed internet service via VSAT antennas and Türksat satellites to all schools that do not have infrastructure.
