Satellite-Supported ‘Robotics Platform’ from Türksat

7 May 2026 Thursday

Ahmet Hamdi Atalay, General Manager of Türksat A.Ş., stated that the ‘Robotic Platform’ is a technology that provides connectivity via satellite and transmits data to devices via 5G, adding, ‘Our system is a platform that will enable communication for our military units in areas where they are on the move and where there are no communication facilities.’

Atalay provided details regarding the platform developed by Türksat. He noted that they were also exhibiting the Robotic Platform at the ongoing SAHA 2026 International Defence, Aviation and Space Industry Fair at the Istanbul Exhibition Centre, adding that the system combines Türksat’s satellite and 5G technologies with robotic systems. Atalay stated that, as Türksat, they have recently been striving to add new elements to traditional services such as satellite broadcasting and internet connectivity. Emphasising that they are working on various technologies aimed at providing uninterrupted and continuous communication in various required fields using core technologies, Atalay reported that the Robotics Platform is one of these.

Atalay said, "Our Robotics Platform is a technology that primarily provides connectivity via satellite and distributes it to devices via 5G. When an earthquake strikes and the entire communications network collapses, we deploy this platform to areas inaccessible to people; it provides connectivity via satellite and helps extend the 5G network to an area with a one-kilometre radius. ‘This means that mobile phones and other terminals using similar technology within that coverage area can continue to communicate via satellite, even if other networks have collapsed,’ he said.

The platform has matured and testing has been completed

Atalay explained that the platform is a mobile system primarily intended for use in disaster zones and areas where communication is unavailable for specific periods. Emphasising that this also applies to the defence sector, Atalay continued: "Furthermore, our system is a platform that will enable communication for our military units whilst they are on the move and in areas where communication is unavailable. Its most important feature is that, as it connects to the network via satellite and can facilitate communication without any other obstacles, it is a platform that can be used anywhere where communication with other networks is not possible." Atalay noted that the product in question has matured and that its testing has been largely completed, adding that they have held discussions regarding the platform with the Disaster and Emergency Management Presidency (AFAD) and the Turkish Armed Forces. Highlighting that Türksat is part of the aviation and defence sectors, Atalay stated, ‘There can be no combat without communication.’

About the Robotic Platform

The mobile platform developed is capable of bringing 5G-enabled data communication to the field by providing satellite connectivity in areas where terrestrial communication infrastructure is absent, damaged or inadequate. The system is designed for disaster and emergency management, border security, critical facility protection, reconnaissance and surveillance activities, and mobile communication needs. In particular, damage to communication infrastructure during disasters such as earthquakes, floods, and wildfires can complicate on-site coordination. The satellite-supported robotic communication solution developed by Türksat can rapidly deploy to the area in such situations, establishing a secure and uninterrupted communication infrastructure. The platform provides 5G communication support via satellite connection, real-time video transmission, voice and data communication, a mobile hotspot service, and critical field telemetry. Capable of operating in challenging terrain, the four-legged robotic platform offers operational advantages in areas where human access is risky. Thanks to its mobile design, the system provides instant connectivity support to security forces, search-and-rescue teams and field personnel. By integrating satellite and 5G technologies, the solution operates independently of terrestrial networks, thereby addressing critical communication needs, particularly in rural areas.
